Don’t I Look Turkish, 2019 (Solo)
Bold Space, Berlin, Germany
13 - 19 September 2019
Don’t I Look Turkish? is an exhibition by Esra Gülmen that explores identity, stereotypes, and everyday micro-discrimination. It brings together the illustration series The Brilliant Questions I Got Asked Because I’m Turkish and a series of hoodies printed with bold questions like “Don’t I look Turkish?” and “Don’t I look German?”—each turning the gaze back onto the viewer and challenging assumptions tied to ethnicity and nationality. These wearable statements bring the conversation into public space, making identity a visible, mobile protest.
